About revalidation: designated bodies

Designated bodies are organisations that most doctors have a connection with and provides them with an annual appraisal and helps them with revalidation.

Designated bodies are there to support doctors with appraisal and revalidation; and work as an environment that monitors and improves the quality of its services.

Responsible officers in each designated body are responsible for making revalidation recommendations about doctors, usually every five years, when they are assured that the doctor is up-to-date and fit-to-practise.

The GMC provides further guidance for doctors about the role of designated bodies.
